Breast Lift.

A Breast Lift, or Mastopexy, is a procedure that aims to restore the natural ‘perkiness’ of the breasts. Used to correct Ptosis (or sagging), Breast Lift surgery raises, restores and enhances the breast contour by removing excess skin and the tightening breast tissue. For optimum and longer lasting results, clients often choose to combine a Breast Lift with a Breast Augmentation to boost volume and lift while enhancing the position, size and shape of the breasts.

    Why Breast Lift Surgery?

Over time skin elasticity can change leading to sagging of the breasts, or what is referred to as Ptosis. Typically Ptosis is caused by pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss or ageing.

By removing excess skin, a Breast Lift reshapes and tightens the breast contour resulting in a firmer, more raised appearance.

A Breast Lift performed by our highly skilled CosMediTour Plastic Surgeons can:

    • Restore sagging breasts after pregnancy or breastfeeding
    • Renew youthful ‘perkiness’ by tightening tissue
    • Reshape the breasts after weight loss or fluctuations
    • Lift the nipple position
    • Reduce the size of the areola (if enlarged over time)
    • Achieve symmetry if your breasts are uneven.

    Breast Lift Recovery.

Recovery periods vary from person to person; however, we advise clients to allow 4 – 6 weeks for post-surgery recovery. Clients must rest for 2 weeks after their Breast Lift. Importantly, no driving, work or exercise in the 1st week. In the 2nd week, clients can ease into light, lower body exercise & in most cases, return to work.

    Breast Lift Risks.

When considering any surgical procedure, it is important to understand that despite choosing a skilled plastic surgeon, receiving care in a premium hospital, and following recovery protocols, all surgical procedures carry risk and complications can still occur.

    Your Surgeon Consultation

Meet with your Plastic Surgeon to discuss your desired outcomes and plan your procedure. Your Surgeon will assess your body composition, breast anatomy and skin elasticity before recommending a personalised Breast Lift Treatment Plan for you.

How is breast lift surgery done

    Your Plastic Surgery

Your surgery will take place in one of our state-of-the-art, accredited private hospitals. You will be placed under general anaesthetic for the duration of the procedure (typically 2 – 3 hours), and, once complete, most of our patients can return home 2 to 3 hours after they wake.

    Downtime for breast lift surgery

    Your Recovery Period

Plan for at least 2 weeks downtime after surgery. Initial discomfort will subside within the first few days and, after the first week, you’ll may be able to resume driving and return to work. You’ll wear a post-surgical support garment for 6 weeks, and your Surgeon will advise when you can reintroduce exercise.

    We're Here To Help.

    Frequently Asked Questions.

A great decision starts with great questions. Ask us as many as you can to see if Breast Lift surgery is right for you. To help you get started, here are the answers to questions we’re asked the most.

How long will my recovery take after a Breast Lift?

Breast Lift recovery will vary between clients but, typically, you can expect 2 weeks downtime. Driving is not permitted in the first week after surgery, and car travel should be limited for 2 weeks, with extra care taken with seatbelt placement. To ensure optimal healing, clients must avoid raising their arms for 10 days but, after this point, most clients can return to work (approximately 2 weeks post-surgery).

Will my breasts sag again after Breast Lift surgery?

Breast Lift surgery is a great solution to restore your breast contour and elevate the breasts to a more youthful position. Unfortunately, the results don’t last forever. As we age, our skin loses its natural elasticity, and the breasts will gradually begin to sag again. The good news is that there are several things you can do to slow the process down. Learn more in our blog, ‘How to Stay Perky After a Breast Lift’.

Will I get scars from a Breast Lift?

A Breast Lift, as with any surgery, will result in some scarring where the incisions are made. Initially, your scars will be sensitive and red, but they will fade over time. Everybody heals differently and the extent of your fading depends on your skin pigment and your post-surgery care. Your Surgeon will make every effort to conceal your incisions in the natural folds of the skin and will provide personalised advice on post-surgery care.

Should I wait until after childbirth before Breast Surgery?

Many of our clients have a Breast Surgery long before planning for children, while others seek a Breast Lift and Augmentation to restore their shape after childbirth. As you consider your timing, bear in mind there can be significant changes to your breasts during and post pregnancy. Breastfeeding will alter the way your natural breasts look. Learn more in our blog, ‘Breastfeeding and Breast Surgery’.

How long after pregnancy can I have a Breast Lift?

As a guide, it’s generally best to wait until 6 months after breastfeeding. This allows enough time for the completion of post-pregnancy changes to your breasts and enables your Surgeon to determine more accurately what’s required to deliver the best results. Bear in mind that weight loss can impact the results of your surgery, so it’s also worth considering this when making your decision.

    What is ptosis?

The term ptosis refers to the sagging of your breasts. This can occur naturally over time, after extreme weight loss or gain, or after pregnancy and breastfeeding. There are varying degrees of breast ptosis (minor, moderate and severe), and this can influence the techniques used during Breast Lift surgery.

Will I have pain after my Breast Lift?

Different degrees of discomfort are normal after Breast Surgery, but this will generally start to subside after 1-2 weeks. Everyone’s journey is unique, so your Surgeon will offer you personalised pain management advice and prescribe medication as required.

How long before I can exercise again after a Breast Lift?

Breast Lift Recovery time can vary depending on your unique anatomy and procedure. Clients must avoid lifting their arms for the first 10 days after their Breast Lift but, generally, light exercise can resume at 2 weeks.

Heavy lifting and high impact aerobic activities, such as jogging, running, and jumping can drastically affect your surgical results. You should not resume these until you’ve completely recovered. Your Surgeon will provide you with personalised advice to ensure an optimal recovery.

How long does Breast Lift surgery take?

Standard Breast Lift surgery takes 1 hour. If combined with Breast Augmentation, the procedure can take longer to complete. As with all aspects of your procedure, your Surgeon will provide you with personalised advice on the timing expected for your Breast Lift.

Do I need a support garment after surgery?

Yes, you do. Wearing a post-surgery support garment is critical to your recovery. These specialised compression garments aid with the management of swelling and promote the healing of your incisions. Typically, clients are required to wear these for 6 – 8 weeks after surgery.

How long will I need to be off work after a Breast Lift?

Depending on the type of work, clients generally return to work within 1 – 2 weeks. If your job involves strenuous exercise or heavy lifting, this timeframe may be extended. As with all aspects of your Breast Lift procedure, your Surgeon will provide you with personalised advice and a recovery timeline tailored to suit you.
