What is Blepharoplasty?
Excess skin and fat around the upper and lower eyelids can create a heavy or tired appearance. Eyelid Lifts reduce the weight of this to reduce bags, smooth wrinkles, enhance eye shpae and expand the line of sight for a refreshed, more youthful look.
During a Blepharoplasty, your highly skilled CosMediTour Plastic Surgeon removes this excess skin and fat in the target area – around the upper and/or lower eyelids – to reduce the amount of unnecessary load in the area. The muscles will also be tightened during the procedure.

Each Blepharoplasty surgery is unique and tailored to meet individual client needs. There are 2 main types of Eyelid Lift:
- Upper Lift which focuses solely on the area between the eyebrow and the eye. This procedure targets excess tissue that, in some cases can obstruct vision
- Lower Lift addresses ‘puffiness’ and bags under the eyes
While some clients may only require one of the two lifts, others will need both—these can be performed in the one surgery.
Recovery periods vary from person to person; however, clients must rest for 5 days after their Blepharoplasty and allow 10 days for post-surgery recovery. Healing is an individual process but a full recovery generally takes place over 3 weeks.
When considering any surgical procedure, it is important to understand that despite choosing a skilled plastic surgeon, receiving care in a premium hospital, and following recovery protocols, all surgical procedures carry risk and complications can still occur.

Your Surgeon Consultation
Meet with your Plastic Surgeon to discuss your desired outcomes and plan your procedure. Your Surgeon will assess your facial features and concerns before recommending the best approach to suit your needs.
Your Plastic Surgery
Your surgery will take place in one of our state-of-the-art, accredited private hospitals. You will be placed under general anaesthetic for the duration of the procedure (typically 2 hours). Once complete and assuming good health, most patients can return home 2 to 3 hours after they wake.
Your Recovery Period
Plan for at least 2 weeks downtime. Light sensitivity is common after surgery and clients may need to wear sunglasses for 2 to 3 days. Driving can resume 1 week after surgery and in most cases, clients can return to work after 10 days. Your Surgeon will advise when you can reintroduce exercise.
Frequently Asked Questions.
A great decision starts with great questions; so ask us as many as you can to see if Blepharoplasty surgery is right for you. To help you get started, here are answers to the questions we’re most commonly asked.
Are Eyelid Lift incisions noticeable?
Plastic Surgeons make every effort to conceal incisions in the natural creases of the eyes where possible. To perform an Upper Eyelid Lift, the incision is made along the fold of the upper eyelid. This line is sometimes visible immediately after surgery, but with the correct post-surgical care, it will fade to being almost invisible over time. Lower Eyelid Lift incisions can be made under the lower eyelashes, or inside the lower eyelid. This results in very minimal to no visible scarring.
Can I wear glasses & contact lenses after an Eyelid Lift?
Glasses can be worn straight after Eyelid Lift. Clients who normally wear contact lenses will have to wait for at least 2 weeks before recommencing wear—this is to reduce the risk of infection while the incision sites heal, and swelling subsides.
How long will recovery take after Blepharoplasty?
All clients heal at different rates and specific recovery time can vary. Generally, though, you can expect minor discomfort and light sensitivity for the first 2 to 3 days (sunglasses may be required), and bruising that can last up to a few weeks. In most cases, clients can resume driving after 5 days, and normal activities (including work) can recommence after 10 days. Your Plastic Surgeon will advise when it’s safe for you to exercise again.
Are the results of an Eyelid Lift permanent?
When performing an Eyelid Lift, Surgeons aim to create a tighter, permanent eyelid crease. The results of surgery are long-lasting, and few clients need to have the procedure redone. The body will naturally continue to age—this means a reduction in the skin’s collagen and elastin levels and the chance of sagging skin, but the eyes will always look younger than if the surgery wasn’t performed.
Is an Eyelid Lift painful?
Eyelid Lifts are minimally invasive. While everyone experiences pain differently, this procedure is one of the least painful Plastic Surgery procedures you can have. Some swelling and bruising may occur after your Eyelid Lift, and you may feel minor discomfort. This can be managed with low-dose pain medication if required.
How long does Eyelid Lift surgery take?
Eyelid Lifts are performed under general anaesthetic and typically take between 1 to 2 hours. Specific timing is dependent on the complexity of your procedure and whether you’re having an Upper Eyelid Lift, a Lower Eyelid Lift, or both. Eyelid surgery is considered Day Surgery. In most cases, clients can return home 2 to 3 hours after they wake from anaesthetic.
