If you’ve ever looked down and noticed your breasts are conical or tube-like, then you may have what we refer to as ‘Tuberous Breasts’. While purely a cosmetic condition, the appearance of Tuberous Breasts can be corrected with Breast Surgery. Read on to discover more about Tuberous Breasts and the Breast Surgery options available to you.

What are Tuberous Breasts?

Tuberous Breasts, Tubular Breast Syndrome or Breast Hypopolasia, refers to a  congential condition whereby breasts fail to develop properly. The condition is caused by unusually thick and strong connective tissue in the chest that restricts breast development during puberty; resulting in breasts that are small and an unusual shape. Tuberous Breasts are either conical or tube-like. They may also have an oval or square base. For patients with Tuberous Breasts, the areola typically appears swollen.

Tuberous Breasts can occur in both women and men.

do I need to have breast surgery for tuberous breasts?

The decision is yours. Tubular Breast Syndrome is a purely cosmetic condition and treatment with Breast Surgery is not a requirement; however for some, the option for Breast Surgery is appealing as a means to fix Tuberous Breasts.

How can breast surgery help tuberous breasts?

Your Surgeon may recommend a Breast Augmentation procedure tailored specifically to Tuberous Breasts. Unlike a typical Breast Augmentation, your highly experienced CosMediTour Surgeon will first need to release the abnormal connective tissue that has restricted your breast development and expand the base of the breast. Breast Implants (typically Teardrop Implants) are then inserted to increase the size of underdeveloped breasts and improve their overall contour.

Depending on the level of Breast Ptosis (sagging), your Surgeon may also recommend a Breast Lift.  Beyond addressing sagging breasts, a Breast Lift can also lift your nipple position, reduce the size of the areola and address asymmetry.

Importantly, correcting Tuberous Breasts is a specialist skillset, so it is important that you choose a Plastic Surgeon who is familiar with and experienced in treating Tuberous Breasts, such as our CosMediTour surgeons. As with any surgical procedure, there is no guarantee that your Tuberous Breasts will be completely corrected with Breast Surgery; however, they will be significantly improved.

why are teardrop implants used for tuberous breasts?

Teardrop Implants are ideal for tuberous breasts as the implant is heavier at the bottom and will create greater projection from the breast fold (the underside of the breast).

CosMediTour Surgeons only use Premium Breast Implants from Mentor or Motiva.
