What You Need To Know About Getting Surgery Ready

Your health is our number one priority at CosMediTour. To ensure your safety, and to help you achieve the best possible outcome, there are a number of very important things you need to do to prepare for your surgery. If you require clarity about any of the items listed below, please don't hesitate to call your Client Manager on 1300 000 633.

Getting Surgery Ready

YOUR COMPLETE MEDICAL HISTORY

It’s vital that you let us know about all of your medical conditions and medications. No matter how small a condition may seem to you, it’s really important that you tell us about it so that we have a complete picture of your physical and mental health.

For example, you may not think that having minor anxiety is worth mentioning, but it actually is important that we know, so please ensure you consider your past and present health history and be really open with us about it.

Please be aware that in some cases, we may require a medical clearance from your GP or Specialist.

MANDATORY GP REFERRAL

Under medical guidelines, it is essential that you have a valid Medical Referral from a GP or Specialist before you have your surgeon consultation.

A Medical Referral from a GP is valid for 12 months and a referral from a specialist is valid for 3 months.

YOUR SURGEON CONSULTATIONS

Booking your Consultations
Upon confirmation of your surgery details, your Client Manager will provide you with contact details to call your Surgeon's clinic and book your Surgeon consultations.

Under medical guidelines,  you are required to have two consultations with your surgeon. At least one of your consultations must be in person, whilst the other can be over the phone or via video if required.

To secure the consultation dates that best work for you, we recommend that you connect with your clinic ASAP.

Medical Referral Requirement
Please note, that it is essential that you have a valid Medical Referral from a GP or Specialist before you have your surgeon consultation. (A Medical Referral from a GP is valid for 12 months and a referral from a specialist is valid for 3 months.)

Be Prepared
To get the most out of your consultation, we encourage you to be well-prepared. Make sure you’ve done adequate research on your procedure and have a list of questions you would like answered. Please also ensure you have your mandatory GP referral, along with any required medical clearances ready to go.

MEDICATIONS & SUPPLEMENTS TO CEASE

There are a range of vitamins, supplements and medications that you must stop taking at least 4 weeks before your surgery.

It’s critical that you stop taking the following mediations 4 weeks prior to your surgery until 2 weeks after your surgery, unless advised otherwise by your Surgeon or General Practitioner.

  • Do not take ANY vitamins
  • Do not take ANY supplements
  • Do not take Nurofen, Nurofen Plus, or any Ibuprofen or anti-inflammatory medication
  • Do not take Aspirin, Disprin or Aspro Clear
  • Do not take any blood thinning medication. Importantly, if you have been directed by your General Practitioner or a Specialist to take a blood thinning medication, you must advise your Surgeon’s clinic and your General Practitioner before stopping your medication

Please note that failure to stop taking these items may result in your surgery being cancelled.

SMOKING & VAPING

Please note that you must not smoke cigarettes, marijuana or partake in any kind of vaping in the 6 weeks leading up to your surgery and also during your recovery period. Please be aware that your Surgeon may perform a nicotine test and, if present, your surgery may be cancelled. Learn why here.

YOUR SUPPORT PERSON

For your safety, you will be required to have a person to pick you up from hospital after your surgery and to stay with you for at least the next 24 hours.

Please consider who you will nominate as your support person, as you will need to provide their contact details ahead of your surgery.

SURGERY & YOUR WEIGHT

To offer you the best possible outcome, our Surgeons always recommend being your ideal weight prior to surgery.

Please note that your Body Mass Index, or ‘BMI’, must be considered within the healthy-range in order to be accepted for surgery. This is because clients with a BMI considered too high, or too low, have an increased risk of surgical complications. READ MORE +

Maintaining a stable weight is also important because weight loss or weight gain before surgery can impact your surgical recommendation and results. If you are on a weight management journey, it’s important to make your Client Manager aware. Additionally, if you experience a fluctuation in your weight of 5kg or more, please be sure to let us know as soon as possible.

PREGNANCY & BREASTFEEDING

Pregnancy can affect the outcome of your surgery. Generally, our Surgeons recommend holding off on surgery until you have completed your family. Breastfeeding can also impact your surgery by increasing the risk of infection. Please be aware that you must conclude breastfeeding at least 6 months prior to your surgery.

MAMMOGRAM REQUIREMENTS

If you are 40 or older, please be aware that you will be required to provide a mammogram result that is dated within 6 months of your surgery date.

POST SURGERY SUPPORT GARMENTS

Whilst some procedures include a basic post-surgery support garment, others don’t. We highly recommend purchasing garments before your surgery so that you have spares available. You will find a range of garments available online.

If you are travelling away from home for your surgery, there are a number of things you need to know. If you require clarity about any of the items outlined here, please don't hesitate to call your Client Manager on 1300 000 633.

COSMEDITOUR Australia

Terms and Conditions.

CosMediTour (Australia) Pty Ltd - ACN: 168 016 868 (“CosMediTour”) of Suite 1B/9 Ouyan St, Bundall Queensland Australia, and “the Client” acknowledges who and accepts the Terms and Conditions as follows:

1. CosMediTour Services

1.1 CosMediTour is a medical and dental tourism facilitator.

1.2 CosMediTour arranges submission of health and other material (provided by you) for evaluation for possible surgery or other procedures by an appropriate surgeon or another healthcare provider, and where appropriate, also arranges bookings for surgical consultations and procedures only.

1.3 CosMediTour only coordinates services and does not itself provide any surgical, medical or healthcare service.

1.4 CosMediTour does not have a financial interest in any of the Clinics or healthcare providers with whom bookings are made.

1.5 CosMediTour acts as a conduit for the provision of medical information from the Clinics and healthcare providers to you, but does not employ any surgeons or other health practitioners.

1.6 Any information provided to you by CosMediTour in relation to a proposed health or surgical procedure has been provided by the Clinics or healthcare providers that will provide the surgical procedure or healthcare.

1.7 CosMediTour provides medical information to you on behalf of the medical practitioners and healthcare providers in good faith, but without offering or providing medical advice.

1.8 CosMediTour recommends that you obtain independent medical advice from an appropriately qualified plastic surgeon in relation to any procedure that you might be considering or that you have asked CosMediTour to coordinate.

2. Collection of Information

2.1 CosMediTour will provide the information collected from you to the Clinics and healthcare providers and from which health or surgical services might be obtained for the purposes of obtaining a surgical recommendation of your suitability for, and if approved, the provision of surgery and/or healthcare procedures.

2.2 CosMediTour will not release any information collected from you to any other person without your consent.

2.3 You must provide true and complete disclosure of all health, lifestyle, and other information requested by CosMediTour, or any healthcare providers. This includes information provided to CosMediTour in person, information provided by completing a CosMediTour online Assessment Form, all written and verbal communications, and all information required by any healthcare provider or clinic.

2.4 You must disclose details of all medical conditions, including operations you have had, and medications taken (past and current) or where any medical or healthcare professional, including alternative therapists, has treated or is treating you for.

2.5 You agree to be responsible for and will agree to pay any additional costs incurred by CosMediTour, the Clinic, or the healthcare provider due to you providing incorrect, incomplete, or misleading information.

3. Process

3.1 When you make an initial enquiry, your preferred requirements are discussed with you. CosMediTour provides information about the Surgeon, medical procedures, estimate quote, and healthcare provider from whom services may be obtained.

3.2 CosMediTour does not guarantee your experience, nor that you will be satisfied with the surgical outcome, and CosMediTour recommends that you make your own enquiries both about the suitability of the proposed surgery and the Clinic and healthcare providers.

3.3 You must complete the online Assessment Form, including providing quality photographs according to the photograph guidelines provided by CosMediTour, and if applicable, all accompanying medical information.

3.4 If you have a family history of breast cancer, a Breast USS (Ultrasound Scan) will be required. However, if your medical history and background indicate that further pre-operative tests need to be done, this will be at your own cost, and your surgery price may be revised from your original quoted surgery price, or cancelled.

3.5 Following the provision of the Assessment Form and images, and any other preliminary tests required, the Clinic or healthcare provider will provide a surgery recommendation about your suitability for the surgery procedure you have requested.

3.6 If the evaluation shows that the proposed procedure is likely to be suitable, CosMediTour will begin arrangements with the healthcare provider at the clinic for the surgeon consultations that you will need to attend before consenting to surgery.

3.7 In line with AHPRA medical guidelines, you must attend TWO surgeon consultations, one of which must be face-to-face. During the consultations, the surgeon will give you details of the final surgical treatment plan, an evaluation of whether or not you should proceed with the surgery, and any other medical or health advice that the surgeon deems suitable. After your second consultation and following a 7-day cooling-off period, your surgery date will be confirmed.

3.8 If a medical condition develops and becomes apparent on the day of surgery, your surgeon will discuss this with you, and your surgery may be rescheduled.

3.9 All smokers who have not ceased smoking, a minimum of 6 weeks before surgery, are considered high-risk patients, and surgery may be postponed or cancelled by the Surgeon or healthcare provider. In such cases, full Cancellation penalties will apply.

3.10 The clinic and healthcare provider at all times reserves the right to refuse to carry out a procedure for any reason.

3.11 If you decide to proceed following the consultation and examination, after having received details of the final surgery treatment plan and costs, the surgery will proceed on the scheduled surgery date.

3.12 Unless instructed by your healthcare practitioner, you must cease taking prescribed medications and all over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements at least 2 weeks before surgery.

3.13 You must inform CosMediTour if you become ill within 4 weeks of surgery, and supply all details, including medication and dosages. You must inform CosMediTour if there has been a change in your weight of over or under 5kg.

3.14 You acknowledge that all individuals have different post-surgical recovery rates, results, and reactions to anaesthetic, pain medication, antibiotics, and other treatments.

3.15 You acknowledge that each surgical procedure carries risk and that there is an expected recovery period of up to 6 months from plastic surgery procedures during which time all care must be taken with lifestyle and activity levels, so as not to compromise the eventual surgery and aesthetic outcome.

3.16 You acknowledge that if a problem arises post-surgery during the prescribed recovery period, you are required to inform the Clinic directly of all details. This information will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the clinic and healthcare provider directly, not CosMediTour.

3.17 You may be required to return to the clinic for consultation/surgery within a time frame decided by the clinic and healthcare provider. Costs will also be determined by the clinic and healthcare provider directly, not CosMediTour.

3.18 If there are any complications, infections, or unexpected outcomes you are not satisfied with post-surgery, you must immediately advise the clinic and healthcare provider directly, not CosMediTour.

4. Payment Obligations

4.1 Prices for surgical packages and procedures, as advertised on the CosMediTour Australia website, other marketing channels, and discussed during initial enquiries or consultations, are indicative only. The final cost can only be determined after your consultations with the surgeon.

4.2 Prices listed are current at the time of publication and are subject to change by the Clinic and healthcare provider on a case-by-case basis without notice.

4.3. A non-refundable and non-transferable service fee is required when booking a plastic surgery procedure. This fee will not be returned in the event of client cancellations of the confirmed surgery date, nor can it be transferred to another individual. However, the fee can be credited towards an alternative surgery or dental package with a minimum value of $6,990, provided that all necessary practitioner consultations are completed. The surgery must be performed within 12 months of the original service fee invoice date.

4.4 By paying the service fee, you are agreeing to the CosMediTour Australia Cancellation and Amendment Policy.

4.5 The final cost of any intended procedure will be confirmed at the time of your face to face consultation by the surgeon. Any adjustment between the estimated cost and the final cost must be paid after the 7-day cooling-off period and 4 weeks before your surgery date.

4.6 The surgery procedure and package prices do not include the costs of any tests that may be required before surgery. You must pay any extra costs directly to whoever is conducting the tests, or to the clinic.

4.7 You acknowledge that the surgery procedure or package prices do NOT include the costs of any post-operative surgery or other treatment that may be required due to unexpected outcomes, complications, infections, or otherwise. In cases like this, you must contact the clinic or healthcare provider to arrange any required postoperative surgery or other treatment. In addition, you must pay the cost of any flights, hotel, and other travel costs required to return to the clinic or healthcare provider relating to any additional treatment needed.

5. Medical Acknowledgements

5.1 If you cancel your surgery, the CosMediTour Amendment & Cancellation Policy will be applied.

5.2 The Surgeon and healthcare provider will require you to complete additional paperwork, sign consents, and other documents in relation to all aspects of the surgery and treatment.

5.3 Any decision about whether additional treatment or procedures are required will be solely determined by the Surgeon and/or healthcare provider.

5.4 Whether or not you are well enough to undertake surgery, or have recently been exposed to a condition that makes surgery unsuitable or requires surgery to be postponed, is at the discretion of the Surgeon and the healthcare provider.

5.5 You agree that CosMediTour is not liable for the provision of, or the outcomes of, any surgical or health procedure or your overall experience during your surgery, associated surgical recovery, or travel.

5.6 You agree to release (and by signing these Terms and Conditions do release) CosMediTour from all responsibility for health and surgical matters, including information provided to you about those health and surgical matters, and acknowledge these are the responsibility of the clinic and healthcare provider.

6. Other Items

6.1 Once CosMediTour has coordinated a surgery procedure in consultation with you, the Clinic and healthcare provider will then contact you directly to confirm a surgical treatment confirmation schedule containing dates, bookings, and other information relating to your surgery.

6.2 It is your responsibility to read and understand the Terms and Conditions of all flight and accommodation reservations made by yourself, as amendments, cancellations, or no-shows will incur fees.

6.3 CosMediTour strongly recommends that you obtain travel insurance at the time of booking accommodation and flights, or purchase a ‘Flexi Fare’ that allows you to amend your flight itinerary with minimal fees.
