What is a Breast Reduction?

A Breast Reduction, or Reduction Mammoplasty is a Plastic Surgery procedure where excess fat and tissue are removed from the breast. This procedure reduces the size of large breasts to bring them more in proportion with the rest of the body. As such, the results are often visually dramatic; however most of our clients are wanting to address more physical and emotional concerns. This includes:

Motivations and symptoms vary from client to client, as does the timing of the procedure. So our highly experienced Plastic Surgeons assess clients on a case-by-case basis and take the time to understand your unique concerns.

Breast Reduction & Breast Feeding

Do I need to wait until after breastfeeding for a Breast Reduction?

Yes, we recommend waiting until after you have finished breast feeding before undergoing this procedure.

During your Breast Reduction, the nipple position and/or size is often corrected. This brings with it a higher risk of damage to milk ducts or nerves which may in turn impact on your ability to breast feed. Your breasts may also grow again with pregnancy and breastfeeding, risking your results in the long term.

WHY GET A BREAST REDUCTION?

Neck, Back and Shoulder Pain

Chronic neck, back, and shoulder pain is common for women with larger breasts as the weight of excess breast fat and tissue strains the neck and back.

Pain is common symptom for many things, so how do you know if your large breasts are causing your pain? Check if your bra straps are leaving marks on your shoulders, this will be a good indicator for the constant weight strain on your shoulders, neck and back.

Women also often fit their bras tighter to support the weight of large breasts, furthering their own personal discomfort.

Skin Irritation, Chaffing, and Rashes

Do you experience frequent rashes, irritation patches, or infections under your breasts?

The constant rubbing and pressure of larger breasts can cause regular discomfort. With increased chafing, comes a higher risk of damaged skin and infection. Clients with overly large breasts frequently present with inflammation along the breast crease. Our Breast Reduction surgery in Australia also lifts the breasts, eliminating the occurrence of chaffing once complete.

Posture and Nerve Damage

Longer term, the constant downwards pressure of larger breasts can change the way you stand and, in some cases, lead to posture-related back issues. In some cases, this may even cause nerve abnormalities in the body which can lead to nipple sensitivity and even numbness.
